Young Environmentalist In Action

With the increase in tourist education level, the perspective of tourism has changed, awareness about the environment and nature has increased and the demands and demands of tourism have changed. The interest in how to ensure sustainability in tourism has increased in order to ensure that tourism does not only consist of sea, sand and sun, but also to have long-term tourism. With the importance of sustainability, which is defined as activities to protect natural resources and leave a good environment for future generations while meeting the needs of today, nature based activities have increased and alternative types of tourism have emerged. One of these types of tourism is eco-tourism.

Eco-tourism, also known as ecological tourism, originated in the 80s is a concept of western origin. If we concentrate on what this concept means, eco-tourism is sensitive trips to natural areas, which are done to protect the environment and to protect the welfare of local people. This form of what we call eco-tourism is one of the sub-sections of sustainable tourism.

As a matter of fact, the environment is an important part of our lives and we are rapidly consuming natural resources every day.Environmental pollution due to many reasons is the most important factor that endangers the lives of human and living beings. Now environmental problems are not local but global. The fact that it has a global nature requires that these environmental problems affect everyone without making a distinction and that they should develop common solutions.

The tourism movement also contributes to the formation of some of the factors that adversely affect the environmental quality. (Yıldırım, 1996). Perceived negative impact of tourism on the environment; is the destruction of natural resources, pollution, damage to cultural and historical ruins, the perceived positive impact is the improvement of activities and roads for local people, recreation opportunities for local people and visitors, protection of historical and cultural resources. When tourism is planned in an environmentally friendly way, it has many positive effects; to provide more parking spaces for local people, to increase the awareness and value of the environment, to develop and protect the image of the region, to improve infrastructure facilities, to improve public activities, to protect touristic values.(Yon d. 2001; Koç ve Stewart 2002) . The effects of tourism can only be made positive by sustainable tourism activities.

In general, the approach of eco-tourism is based on the combination of two important factors: economic development and environmental protection. All activities carried out in the field of eco-tourism should be active for the local people and should not have negative effects on society and environment.Once all this has been achieved, the local community can become economically viable.
